Debbie Downer

If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. Jeremiah 18:7-8

Not to be "Debbie Downer," but sometimes I think to myself, "Dude, we are all going to die!" Now, I know what you're thinking, "Very good Chris. You understand how life works." But, I'm serious here! Look at American culture. Look at the TV shows we watch. Notice the commercials, the music, the things we look at. I hate to say it, but I don't really even blush any more with some of this stuff. Sin is so prevalent, so common... when are we going to change? Are we any different from our culture? Or, are we just like everybody else?

I think it's killing me. Really. I just feel so gross inside sometimes. So, I wonder if it isn't time for repentance. Maybe the time has come to remove the sin, run from the worldliness, and cut the TV! I hate to be a freak. I hate to sound like a werido, but things are just getting really bad out there. So, that's it. Just a thought. Just the idea that maybe the time for repentance is at hand. Otherwise, its just gonna get worse. That's how life works!

I know a man from work who attends a Pentecostal Holiness congregation. He is a wonderful guitar player and doesn't own a TV or a Computer. He never goes to movies unless they are shown at his church. The only shows he sees are also shown at his church. He told me he owned a TV for about 2 years after he moved out of his parents house, they don't own one either. It was a Victoria's Secret commercial that did him in. He unplugged the TV threw it away and has never had one since. Told me he felt dirty with all of the sin peddled on it. He has a happy family with kids who read like crazy. They too are not "weird" just divergent to mainstream society on protecting their family from media portrayals of sin. I watch so little TV I have considered tossing it out too.
