Last year I buried my first person. I've been in some form of ministry for 15 years now, and I've done a lot of different stuff. However, burying someone is a rather new experience for me. As I watched my friend pass on, I was utterly amazed by the truth that although "outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are being renewed day by day." I saw so much spiritual growth in my friend, weeks and days before drawing that final breath. And then like that.... poof.... my friend was gone.
I wish I could live with C.S. Lewis' mindset that "I am a soul." I wish I could always remember my friend's journey and remember that this outward body is just a temporary shell. I am more than flesh. I am so much more than flesh that flesh does not even define me. I am indeed "spirit."
Today, remember that first and foremost, "you are spirit." Walk as though reality states that you are primarily above this plane of existence. Rise above the dirt and soil of this world and begin to breathe in the air of a different reality. You don't have a soul... you are a soul. May that soul forever be linked to the eternal Father above.
