Praying The Psalms

I have been reading Dr. Lynn Anderson's book They Smell Like Sheep: Volume 2. This has been an assignment that the ministry staff and shepherds are involved in at Lakeview. Today I ran across a section dealing with prayer that suggests one pray through the Psalms. Call me uninformed, but this was the first time I've ever be challenged to do this, and so began that process today. I don't know how long this will last, but I must say that praying the Psalms was a unique experience for me. Besides the difficulty of having to reword a psalm to make it fit in prayer form, the experience was truly interesting. In Psalm 2 as I read the words “Why do the nations conspire?” it occurred to me that I have never asked that question before and really could care less about the answer! Still, it was fun to put myself in the shoes of kings and shepherds as I read these verses out loud in prayer form. Will I continue to pray the Psalms? I sure hope so. The experience so far has been challenging and fascinating to me.
