
Self sacrifice seems so foreign to us. And yet, as we grow to know Christ more, it becomes amazingly clear why we do what we do. Because, in giving up here in this life, we gain for ourselves treasure in another. Like Christ's parable of taking the lesser seat, when we sit down at God's table in an inferior place, the master of the banquet is able to "bump us up" in a place of position and authority. By giving up of the flesh, we gain in the spirit. One must never forget that "in the next room" the blind shall see. If that's true, what about the poor in spirit, those who hunger for righteousness, or the meek?
